Citizen safety is focus, not evacuation: MEA on Ukraine-Russia tensions

India has no immediate plan to evacuate its citizens from Ukraine and is focused on ensuring their security and not on anything “big”, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

MEA spokesman Arindam Bagchi said at a press conference India was supportive of resolving the Ukraine crisis through ongoing negotiations. He said the Indian ambassador to Kyiv had contacted Indian students in Ukraine and continued to monitor the situation on the ground.

“We are focused and focused on Indian citizens, Indian students, Indian people rather than anything bigger than what we need to do to ensure their safety,” Bagchi said. He said there were no immediate evacuation plans and no special flights planned.

Noting that there are a limited number of flights between India and Ukraine under the air bubble arrangement, Bagchi said restrictions on the number of flights and passengers are being lifted.

“Indian carriers are encouraged to use chartered flights between India and Ukraine,” he said
