Ravi Bishnoi faced a few challenges in his international debut, but he managed to put it together and wrote a good conclusion.

In the first stages of the first T20I against the West Indies here on Wednesday, Bishnoi hit something high for a long time to give Nicholas Pooran a life. Later, when Bishnoi threw his first over, he tested the Rishabh Pant wicket by three wickets.

It is the honor of the first player to win the first jitters to win the ‘Man-of-the-match’ prize, with two clean spells for 17 spellings. The spinner will enter the second round here on Friday bold and relaxed.

A brilliant captain

It helped that Bishnoi had a brilliant captain in Rohit Sharma. Realizing that Bishnoi’s stock delivery, googly, turns a long way, Rohit stopped at the southpaw Pooran station. When Roston Chase using his right hand came on strike, Rohit moved to an unusual leg. The move did not lead to the removal of the wicket, but it was interesting to note that Bishnoi and Rohit had specific, customized plans in mind.

Bishnoi and his spin partner Yuzvendra Chahal, although both are classified as leg-spinners, differ in the way they perform their art. Rohit referred to the variety offered by Bishnoi, saying he brings “something different” to the table. The captain was apparently pleased with Bishnoi’s performance, describing him as “a very talented boy”.

The club’s management will monitor Bishnoi’s progress, as he tries to identify the key team that will perform at the ICC T20 World Cup later this year.

This combination of team confusion forced Shreyas Iyer out of the first T20I. Shreyas, who is just a few hours before the game and has been named captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has been ruled out for failing to play as a swimmer. The role of the all rounder can be filled by Venkatesh Iyer, at least until Hardik Pandya recovers and returns.

The finishing role, most important in the T20s, was fully worn by Suryakumar Yadav. He started knocking on four of the first four balls he faced. Most importantly, he committed himself to being beaten and to finish the chase.

No good strokes

Suryakumar also led Venkatesh into a difficult situation. “I told him (Venkatesh) that there is no need for good strokes, he should play good shorts with good intentions. He did very well, “Suryakumar told the host of the program.

In the West Indies, the disappointing journey continued with a fourth consecutive defeat. The failures of midfielders Roston Chase, Rovman Powell and Akeal Hosein called for the team on Wednesday. Chase, the batsman best suited in the long format, has shown his worth with the ball in hand. His tight off-spin used skids in India, but the home team was left in the tank to get out unscathed.
