Langer’s contract was due to expire in June, and it has always been CA’s intention to fix his future once last year’s T20 World Cup and the latest Ashes series have been completed. He is leaving despite Australia winning the T20 and Ash World Cup months ago.
His position as coach became increasingly difficult in August when players and support staff caused a complete uproar with Langer’s tight and flexible management style, forcing him to step back.
Australia will face Sri Lanka in the T20I 5-match series from February 11 but Langer had previously received a pre-season break from the home series and was expected to join the team during their visit to Pakistan in March. Andrew McDonald will be in charge of the squad to face Sri Lanka.
