He has been sidelined with tennis stars Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu among others on the shortlist
Indian gold medalist Neeraj Chopra on Wednesday was nominated for the Laureus ‘World Breakthrough of the Year’ award.
He was placed next to tennis stars Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu among others on the shortlist.
The 23-year-old Chopra, who became the second Indian to win a gold medal at the Olympics and the first in the track and field, competed for the yellow metal in Tokyo by throwing 87.58 meters.
He is now only the third Indian to receive Laureus’ nomination after cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and wrestler Vinesh Phogat.
A team of more than 1,300 sports journalists and broadcasters around the world has nominated nominees for each of the seven categories to compete in this year’s Laureus World Sports Awards.
Winners will be announced in April.
