Pro League Hockey India thrashes France 5-0 in its opener

It plays in its first game of the year, World No. 3 India took some time to stabilize in the first quarter.

India, who won a bronze medal at the Olympics, started their FIH Pro League Hockey campaign by beating France 5-0 in a high-profile match here on Tuesday.

After a poor first quarter, India scored three goals in the second before scoring twice in the third.

India got four penalty kicks in the match which they won two. France acquired three PCs but destroyed them all.

Harmanpreet Singh and Varun Kumar hit the penalty spot in the 21st and 24th minutes before Shamsher Singh made it 3-0 in the 28th minute with a goal from the field.

Mandeep Singh (32) and Akashdeep Singh (41) completed the Indian statistics.

It plays in its first game of the year, World No. 3 India took time to stabilize in the first quarter.

But once it got its player rating, the team led by Manpreet Singh climbed to the top and dominated the remaining three quarters.

India will face South Africa in its second match on Wednesday.
