Was Scared to Send it to Her

Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chaubara, an old Lata Mangeshkar taken from Padmini Kolhapure in the film Prem Rog, is probably the most famous song of all his career. No other wedding song from Bollywood has been able to create the same purity and emotions as this song, composed by Laxmikant Pyaarelal, inspiring. Padmini himself recently composed a 1982 song for his son Priyaank Sharma and Paras Mehta’s label, Dhamaka Records, using his voice in a new version.

“Life has brought a whole circle with this song. I was the daughter in the first song, and in this song I play the mother of her daughter who is getting married, “Padmini told News18, referring to a song sequence in Prem Rog, in which she plays a young bride who is about to leave her parents’ home.

“When Priyaank and Paras came to me and said they were looking for Yeh Galiyan Yeh Chaubara, I told them ‘Have you lost it?’ I thought they were crazy to do that. effort. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar, composed by Laxmikant Pyaarelal and directed by Raj Kapoor. How could we fit in with those myths? But little by little they reassured me that they would do justice to it when it was redone, ”explains Padmini.

Coming from a musical family – his father, Pandharinath Kolhapure, was a talented musician and Veena performer – Padmini always wanted to be an artist. But his career plans deteriorated and he became an actor. “Singing was always my first love, but I eventually became an actor. I have always wanted to get back to it. Coming from a music family, I was very careful in singing this song. It was a big challenge, ”he insists.

But the biggest challenge was probably getting Aunt Lata Mangeshkar’s permission. Padmini says he was afraid to send it to the legend singing after the recording. “Nothing compares to Lataji’s voice, no one can approach him. I knew I would be judged for wanting to rename his song. I was too scared to send her the song, but she heard me say, ‘You sang well, keep singing’. ”

Padmini was recently spotted in the Disney + Hotstar series Dil Bekaraar. Without imitation, you want to keep singing. There is another song coming out with Dhamaka Records, which will be a different genre, he says, without wasting too much detail.
